This easy homemade beef chili is the ultimate comfort food for cool weather. Packed with tender ground beef, creamy kidney beans, and a rich, smoky tomato sauce, it delivers a robust savory flavor that's deeply satisfying. Perfect for busy weeknights or as a meal prep option, this dish can be ready in about 40 minutes and is guaranteed to please the whole family. Serve it with warm cornbread or over baked potatoes for a hearty dinner.
Heat a large Dutch oven or heavy pot over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon until fully browned.
Drain off any excess grease, leaving about a tablespoon in the pot.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.
Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper over the cooked beef and onions.
Stir continuously for 1 to 2 minutes.
Pour in the canned diced tomatoes (with their juices), tomato sauce, beef broth, and rinsed kidney beans.
Stir everything together thoroughly.
Bring the pot to a gentle boil over medium heat.
Once bubbling, lower the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it simmer gently for 20 to 25 minutes.
Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Taste the chili and adjust the seasoning with an extra pinch of salt or hot sauce.
Ladle hot into bowls and top with your favorite toppings.
