Trim the chicken breasts of any excess fat and pat them dry with paper towels.
Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Optional: In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and sear the seasoned chicken breasts for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Place the seared or unseared chicken breasts in the bottom of a slow cooker.
In a mixing bowl, combine the ranch dressing mix, cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until well mixed.
