Ham and cheese stromboli is a satisfying dish with a crisp baked crust and a warm, melted center, perfect for dinner, lunch, or casual gatherings. Made with store-bought pizza dough, it simplifies preparation while delivering great texture and flavor. The evenly layered filling of ham and mozzarella, seasoned with herbs and spices, creates a balanced taste that everyone will enjoy. This recipe showcases straightforward cooking that allows you to bring comfort food to the table without complication.
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Lightly flour your work surface. Place the pizza dough in the center and let it rest for about ten minutes.
Roll the dough into a rectangle about 10 by 14 inches. Brush the surface lightly with olive oil.
Arrange the sliced ham evenly over the dough, leaving about one inch of space on all edges.
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the ham. Add garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly like a jelly roll. Pinch the seam firmly to seal it.
Fold the short ends underneath to keep the cheese from escaping. Place the stromboli seam-side down on the baking sheet.
Using a pastry brush, coat the top of the stromboli with beaten egg. Make a few shallow diagonal cuts across the top.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the surface is golden brown and firm. Rotate the pan halfway through baking.
Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack for ten minutes before slicing.
Slice the stromboli into thick pieces and serve warm, plain or with marinara sauce.
